On Wednesday, Team USA Captain Keegan Bradley made his captain’s picks public to the golf world. And he did what everyone thought he couldn’t do—leave himself off of the team.
Instead, he chose Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Ben Griffin, Patrick Cantlay, Cameron Young, and Sam Burns.
A few hours after Team USA became official, the U.S. Ryder Cup team Twitter account posted a behind-the-scenes video of Bradley calling Burns to let him know he was bound for Bethpage Black. Judging by the emotion from both guys, this seems like the moment it became official Bradley was just going to serve as the captain.
This is what it’s all about.

“I know this was a very, very tough decision for you,” Burns said. “And, I think it shows your maturity and your ability to lead. It’s been really impressive to watch, and I know it’s been extremely difficult. And there’s—you’ve put a lot of time and effort, and your whole life into this, and I promise you I’ll give you my 100% best. And I’ll compete as hard as I possibly can for you.”
As I wrote earlier on Wednesday, with this decision, Bradley has a team full of guys ready to fight and claw for him next month.
I can’t wait to feel that energy at Bethpage.
