I’ve seen a lot of bad putts in my day watching the best players in the world, but they usually come from short range. An occasional miss from inside a foot. But Connor Syme outdid them all on Friday morning at the DP World Tour’s Nexo Championship in Scotland.
After shooting an even-par 72 on Thursday, Syme’s second round started at the par-5 1st. He found the fairway, hit a lay-up, and his third found the fairway just long of the green.
Then it happened.
He hit his putt, and it went cruising by the hole. And then it just wouldn’t stop. When it was finished, his ball was 47 yards—yes, yards!—away from the hole.
Syme went on to make a cool triple-bogey eight to start his day, and eventually signed for a 7-over 79. I don’t blame him, I would’ve been rattled, too.
