I just want to shout-out my guy, Ron Klos. He does a wonderful job putting together stats, analysis, and a whole lot more for every PGA TOUR event and I use his stuff all the time for my picks. So, thanks for making me look smart, Ron.
Anway, Mr. Klos was at the Rocket Classic last week and asked Davis Thompson, the defending champion of the upcoming John Deere Classic, who was staying in the John Deere Trophy House this year.
If you’re unaware, there’s a group of PGA TOUR players who all stay together for golf’s fifth major in Silvis, Illinois. For the last three seasons, the winner of the JDC has stayed at that house. So, if you’re one for trends, this week’s champion will be one of these seven guys.
“Yeah, I think it's going to be myself, Grayson Sigg, Chris Kirk, Ben Kohles, Patton (Kizzire), J.T. Poston, and Denny McCarthy,” Thompson told Klos. “I think we'll have seven guys. Yeah, it will be a fun time.”
Poston won in 2022, Sepp Straka, who isn’t in this week’s field, won in 2023, and Thompson a year ago. There’s one name in particular that piqued my interest when I saw this quote because he’s on my card for the JDC.
Mr. Denny McCarthy.
The best putter in the world has finished T-6 (2022), T-6 (2023), and T-7 (2024) in his last three trips to TPC Deere Run. Maybe all he needs is some Strokes Gained: John Deere Trophy House, as Klos wrote perfectly, to finally get his first win on TOUR.
