Let’s have a weekend in the Great White North, folks.
The first 36 holes of the RBC Canadian Open are in the books and Cameron Champ, yes, Cameron Champ, came out of nowhere to earn the halftime lead at 12 under. The three-time PGA TOUR winner has bounced between the Korn Ferry Tour and the show this season, and in five previous starts in 2025, he made just two cuts.
Some of the fun names within striking distance include 2023 champion Nick Taylor (9-under), Shane Lowry (8-under), Jake Knapp (8-under), and Sam Burns (8-under).
But there are several big names heading home early, including two-time Canadian Open winner and World No. 2 Rory McIlroy.
RBC Canadian Open: How to Watch
Max Homa (69-69, 2-under)
Max just can’t catch a break. His game was better this week, posting two under-par rounds, but he’s still going home after 36 holes.
Tom Kim (70-69, 1-under)
This is Kim’s fifth missed cut of the season across 15 starts, and he hasn’t finished inside the top 35 since a T-7 finish at Pebble Beach. It’s been a tough year for the Presidents Cup legend.
Justin Rose (68-71, 1-under)
Rosey played some great golf on Thursday en route to a 2-under 68. But Friday was a different story. Three birdies were offset by a bogey and two doubles, and now he’s heading home.
Luke Clanton (70-69, 1-under)
Clanton’s pro debut didn’t go according to plan. He was thrown right into the fire and played with Rory and Ludvig Aberg for the first two rounds but didn’t do enough to make it to the weekend.
Sungjae Im (72-68, Even)
Im has four top-25 finishes in his last seven starts, but now he’s missed two cuts in that span, too.
Rory McIlroy (71-78, 9-over)
Well, that came outta nowhere. Holy cow. A second-round 78 is never a good thing. This is Rory’s first missed cut since the Open last July.
