Gear changes and player signings are a big deal in golf, and PXG just signed one of the fastest-rising players on the planet, PGA Tour rookie Marco Penge, to their roster. Over the past 12 months, Marco has had one of the biggest rises in golf, with three wins on the DP World Tour in 2025 to finish second in the Race to Dubai behind Rory McIlroy.
To put his rise into perspective, the now 29th-ranked player in the world was outside the top 400 this time last year. This made him a hot commodity in the available player market going into 2026, with PXG winning what was likely a competitive bidding war. PXG founder and CEO Bob Parsons emphasized competitiveness and performance as key drivers behind the signing.
Marco is driven, talented, and unapologetically competitive, exactly the kind of player we want representing PXG,” Parsons said. “He’s committed to getting better every day, and we’re proud to support him with equipment built to perform at the highest level.

“From the first conversation, it was clear PXG is obsessed with performance. The fitting process, the people, the technology… it’s all built to help players compete at the highest level. I’m excited to work closely with the team and put PXG equipment in play every week.”

BUY NOWAs much as this looks like a standard TOUR signing, there’s more at play here. For PXG, this move is about more than adding another staffer. It’s about performance validation and TOUR visibility.
When it comes to pure performance, PXG makes great clubs from top to bottom. There are tons of golfers with the fitting results to prove it. The issue is that they have struggled to get traction with their drivers on tour.
To be fair, this isn't just a PXG thing; TaylorMade had adoption issues with the Qi35 series last year on tour to the point where it felt like an almost week-to-week story.

With Marco being a well-known masher of golf balls, and PXG looking to showcase their newest Lightning series drivers on tour, this is a match made in marketing heaven. Especially knowing that he surely had many testing and fitting sessions under his belt before signing on the dotted line.

Look, I don't mean to talk simple dollars and cents here but at the end of the day beyond tournament golf, this still is the golf equipment business, and for PXG this is a sign that they mean business in performance and showcasing their gear.
As much as I hate to say it here, from the outside looking in, the loser in this situation is Mizuno.
Not only did they lose the fastest-rising young star from their roster, who won three times with their gear in 2025, which stinks. But, with their first major new driver announcement in 3-years with the JPX ONE (which is getting great reviews so far), I bet they feel it would have been really nice if one of the longest players on tour was using it.
As I said before, as much as we might not like to talk about it (and the golf industry notoriously doesn't seem to want to talk about it), this is a business, and at the end of the day, perception matters as much as performance.
In a business where perception matters as much as performance, PXG just checked both boxes—with Marco Penge now central to that strategy.
