Adam Scott has one goal on his mind this week at the Wyndham Championship: make it to the postseason.
Sitting at 85th in the FedEx Cup Playoffs points standings, the Aussie needs to move up at least 15 spots to earn a place on the tee sheet for next week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis. Scott is currently tied for the most playoff appearances with 17—this thing’s only been around for 18 years!
“I feel like my game's been pretty good since May, so I need to be on the front foot a little bit, I can't be sitting back waiting for it to happen,” Scott told the media Wednesday at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina. “I've got a couple of days to put myself in contention for the weekend. Yeah, I feel confident with my game that I can do that.”
He’s had some success around this place, including a playoff loss in 2021 and a tie for seventh two years ago. So it’s easy to see how the 45-year-old could make a run over the next four days.
However, thanks to Scott’s position on the PGA TOUR’s policy board, it’s inevitable that he’s asked about the TOUR’s ongoing discussions with LIV Golf and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund at every media availability.
Wednesday wasn’t an exception.
“Obviously there's not much happening between—I don't know if more White House visits are really necessary,” he said. “It was really quite an experience, I have to say. I haven't—those conversations haven't advanced far from there, and with Brian (Rolapp) stepping in, a lot of that's going to fall onto his desk now. I think that he needs some time to kind of really get up to speed and understand what's going on with that.”
And with LIV’s continued pursuit of World Ranking points, it’s getting harder and harder to see the two tours coming together.
Who knows, maybe they will. But the current landscape of golf could be here to stay.
