NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa. — One more sleep until the PGA Championship kicks off at Aronimink and it’s already been a busy, if not odd, week. I mean, the main storyline has been Rory McIlroy’s foot.
But after spending a few days walking Donald Ross’ design, I’m pretty excited to watch the best players take it on over the next four days. Visually, it looks spectacular. The bunkering is fantastic, and the intimacy of the property almost gives it a stadium feel.
Before the boys kick things off in the morning, I have three players I want to talk through who have great chances of hoisting the Wanamaker.
PGA: How to Watch | Tee Times | Field
Ludvig Aberg (16/1)

I haven’t seen Aberg’s name floated around much at Aronimink this week, and maybe that’s justified given that he’s missed the cut in his two previous starts at the PGA, but he’s playing too well to be flying this far under the radar.
In six starts since the beginning of March, his worst finish is a tie for 21st at the Masters. The others? All T-8 or better. Plus, at a second-shot golf course like Aronimink, it’s hard not to like Aberg and his ranks of 10th on TOUR in Strokes Gained: Approach and fifth in proximity.
He has the game to win multiple majors—why not start this week outside Philly?

Tommy Fleetwood (25/1)

Fleetwood didn’t have his best stuff at the Masters and struggled on Thursday at Harbour Town (76), but since then, he’s been back to playing some really nice golf. He’s fresh off a tie for fifth at Quail Hollow and is once again about to start the pursuit for his first major.
He was in Philly eight years ago for the BMW Championship at Aronimink and shot two rounds of 62 to finish in a tie for eighth.
It’s time for the Englishman to knock off one of golf’s big four.
Rickie Fowler (45/1)

I had him at Quail Hollow, and I'm going back to him because if Fowler is going to add a major championship to his resume, this week feels like the perfect opportunity.
Since missing back-to-back cuts in Texas, he’s finished T-8 at the RBC Heritage, T-9 at the Cadillac Championship, and T-2 at the Truist Championship. Plus, at the ‘18 BMW, he finished tied for eighth.
Is this pick a little heart over brain? Maybe, but imagine not picking Rickie the week he finally gets it done? I couldn’t live with myself.
