How to Watch The Golf This Week: PNC Championship

Your favorite golfer’s favorite event.

Us golf fans should consider ourselves pretty lucky. We don’t get to experience a true “silly season” like other sports, where fans go months at a time without seeing their favorite athletes or teams on their screens. The true golf break is typically only a week and change before the ramp up of the season kicks off in Hawaii at The Sentry, followed by the LPGA’s season opener, Tour of Champions, a couple of weeks later.

If you find yourself missing pro golf and didn’t quite get your fix after Tuesday night’s showdown between Scottie/Rory and Bryson/Brooks—fear not. Your favorite golfers’ favorite event is back!

The PNC Championship hits just before the holidays and just in time to bid ado to the 2024 golf season.

Originally called The Father/Son Challenge when it debuted back in 1995 before being renamed in 2020, the PNC Championship consists of two-player teams featuring a PGA Tour, Champions tour or LPGA player and one of their family members. The professional player must either be a major champion or winner of the Players Championship and the family member cannot be a current touring professional.

By now, we’re sure you've seen the news that Tiger will be teeing it up alongside son, Charlie, after months away recovery from surgery. Seeing Big Cat and (now not-so) Little Cat feels like a holiday season tradition at this point. Sure, we always get a kick out of seeing Team Woods dawning matching fits and club twirling across the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, but for many of us, we catch a glimpse of the legendary Tiger Woods be a dad and coach to his son, while being hilariously humbled in the process.

Who else is confirmed for the weekend? Defending champs Bernhard Langer and Jason Langer (son), Nelly Korda and her dad Petr, Annika Sorenstam and son Will, and several other golfing legends we’ve all come to know and adore over the years.

The full field:

Tiger Woods and Charlie Woods (son)

Stewart Cink and Connor Cink (son)

Fred Couples and Hunter Hannemann (step-son)

John Daly and John Daly II (son)

David Duval and Brady Duval (son)

Nick Faldo and Matthew Faldo (son)

Tom Lehman and Sean Lehman (son)

Justin Leonard and Luke Leonard (son)

Mark O’Meara and Shaun O’Meara (son)

Gary Player and Alexander Hall (grandson)

Nick Price and Greg Price (son)

Vijah Singh and Qass Singh (son)

Annika Sorenstam and Will McGee (son)

Steve Stricker and Izzi Stricker (daughter)

Lee Trevino and Daniel Trevino (son)

Padraig Harrington and Paddy Harrington (son)

The Format

In all, the 20 two-player teams, each featuring one major or Players champion alongside their family member of choice, will compete across two rounds under a scramble format. As a reminder of how this format works: Each pair tees off, selects the best shot, and both players hit their next shots from that position. This continues until the ball is holed.

A scramble is the ultimate form of team work and risk-reward strategy, creating some pretty cool moments for viewers at home to get hyped about.
