A Call From His KPMG-Women’s-PGA-Winning Sister Might Have Been Exactly What Min Woo Lee Needed

Min Woo got a call from his sister last night, just a few days after she won the KPMG Women's PGA Championship. It's tough to think it's a coincidence that he went out and shot a 9-under 63 on Thursday morning.

Minjee Lee won her third major championship and 11th LPGA event of her career on Sunday with a three–shot victory at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. This less than three months since her brother, Min Woo, captured his first PGA TOUR win at the Houston Open in late March.

It’s the Lee’s world and we’re just living in it.

But it hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows for Min Woo since he finally put a tally in the win column.

In seven starts since that incredible Sunday in the Lone Star State, Min Woo has missed two cuts (PGA Championship, U.S. Open), and hasn’t finished better than 49th (Masters). A winner’s hangover is absolutely a thing, especially when it’s your first, but they don’t usually last this long.

Maybe his sister’s W in Texas was the kick in the ass he needed to get back to playing some high-level golf.

“We talked last night. Normally, she doesn't check up on me, but it was actually quite nice to get a call from her. I was like, ‘Did you butt dial me? What's going on?’ She was like, ‘No, I just want to check in.’ I was like, ‘OK," Lee said.

“No, she's awesome. I think she had a bit of a night on Sunday with a few of her friends, I think they all had a week off this week. It's good to see her in a nice mental space and happy on the course. She was going through a tough patch the last couple years, so it's nice to see her have her swagger back.”

And speaking of getting one’s swagger back, Min Woo did just about everything right on Thursday, pouring in 113 feet of putts that resulted in 10 circles on the card, the most of his career. Oh, and chipping in for birdie on your first hole of the tournament will always play.

His 63 wasn’t just the lowest opening round of his career, but it also tied the course record at Detroit Golf Club. A decent Thursday, in my opinion.

Min Woo will have to keep his foot on the gas the rest of the week, as four of the six champions of this event have gone 23-under or deeper. But that shouldn’t be a problem for the Aussie, as he won at Memorial Park at 20 under—I’m sure there’s a great “Down Under” pun I could use here, but I’ll skip it this time.

It might not be a major, but both siblings winning within seven days of each other would be pretty damn cool. Go get it done, Min Woo.
