Well, well, well. The kid did it!
Charlie Woods captured his first AJGA title on Wednesday at the Team TaylorMade Invitational, hosted at Streamsong Black in Bowling Green, Florida.
Charlie used a beautiful 7-under 65 to move into a tie for second on Tuesday and kept that momentum going during the final 18 holes.
After trading a birdie at the first for a bogey at the second, the 16-year-old birdied Nos. 4, 6, 7, and 8 before making the turn with a 4-under 32. On his way back to the clubhouse, Charlie added circles to his card on 11, 12, and 14, plus a bogey on 13, and was able to par home from there to cement his third-round 6-under 66 and three-shot victory.
There was some serious talent behind the GOAT’s kid on Wednesday, including Luke Colton, a Vanderbilt commit, and Miles Russell, who played in the PGA TOUR’s Rocket Mortgage Classic last season at 15 years old.
But it didn’t matter.
Charlie was completely in control of his golf ball, and his swing was smooth as butter. A very impressive performance from a high school junior who has no equals when it comes to expectations—he has his dad to thank for that.
I’m sure it’s not going to take long for Charlie’s phone to ring on a loop from calls from college programs around the country.
It would be pretty sweet to see him in Cardinal red.
