Three Players to Watch at the Charles Schwab Challenge

Justin Thomas is trending going into Colonial, and he seems poised for a W. Here are three players to watch at the Charles Schwab.

The second event of the PGA TOUR’s early-summer Texas two-step gets underway Thursday morning at Colonial Country Club, and there are plenty of interesting names to keep an eye on in Fort Worth.

Ludvig Aberg, who is making his course-debut, is the betting favorite at 8/1, and it’s no secret as to why. Over his last seven starts, the Swede has finished T-8 or better six times. That’ll do, donkey. He’ll be joined in the field by Justin Thomas, Russell Henley, Rickie Fowler, Hideki Matsuyama, and Akshay Bhatia, among others.

Before the action kicks off, let’s go over three players who are worth putting on your betting card.

Justin Thomas (20/1)

JT was part of the bad draw at the PGA Championship, but still managed to post two rounds of 69 on Thursday and Friday. He didn’t have his best stuff on Saturday, but shot a 5-under 65 on Sunday. Over his last three starts, he’s finished T-23 in Miami, 13th at Quail Hollow, and T-5 at Aronimink. I really like where his game is trending.

Plus, he should fit Colonial nicely. JT will have plenty of wedge opportunities, and he’s ranked ninth on TOUR from 50-125 yards. He hasn’t played here much throughout his career, but he did finish in a tie for 10th in 2020.

Rickie Fowler (24/1)

I originally had Bud Cauley in my No. 2 spot, but he withdrew from the tournament on Tuesday. So, I’m going back to Rick.

He may be ranked 38th in the world, but Data Golf has him at No. 15 and even that might be too low. Across 12 starts this season, Fowler has seven top-25 finishes and three top 10s in his last four starts. He’s balling.

Plus, he’s seen plenty of Colonial throughout his career, grabbing five top 25s across 12 career starts in Fort Worth. Three years ago, Fowler tied for sixth. I’ve picked him several times over the last few months, and I’m riding with him again.

Max Greyserman (55/1)

Male golfer in blue shirt and white cap walks on green, holding club.

Greyserman missed four straight cuts from THE PLAYERS to Zurich Classic, but has been trending ever since: T-38 (Cadillac Championship), T-31 (ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic), T-14 (PGA Championship), and T-9 (THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson).

He missed the cut at his first appearance at Colonial, but tied for 22nd a year ago.

If you don’t want to take him outright, I love him for a top 20 at +210.
