There are hot takes, and then there’s whatever Bubba Watson spewed on Thursday.
During a sit down with Golf.com, the two-time Masters champion said that Scottie Scheffler’s 2024 season was better than Tiger Woods’ historic 2000 campaign.
“I know Tiger did some stuff in 2000, but Scottie’s year was the best we’ve ever seen. With all the talent around the world now playing, that was it,” he said.
Scheffler won seven official events in 2024 including THE PLAYERS, Masters, Memorial, Olympics, and TOUR Championship. No one in their right mind would tell you that’s not impressive. The talent pool is so deep and Scheffler out dueled them all.
But Tiger was on something in 2000.
He won nine times, three of which were major championships: U.S. Open, Open, and PGA Championship. He won by 15 at Pebble Beach. He won the Open by eight. He also finished second four times.
That’s the greatest season any golfer has ever had. Period.
You could argue that's the best season any athlete has ever had, regardless of sport.
Maybe Bubba is just standing up for the player who now employs his old looper, but I don’t think many are going to agree with this take.
In fact, they don’t.
