After a so-so 1-over 73 around the South Course on Thursday, Brooks Koepka had some work to do at the North Course to make the weekend at the Farmers Insurance Open. It came down to the wire—he needed a par or better at the par-5 ninth, his last hole of the day—but he got it done, signing for a 4-under 68.
Koepka’s first and only birdie on Day 1 came at the South’s iconic 18th, but on the easier North, the five-time major champion put three circles on his card plus a big-bird at the par-5 17th.

On the top of the leaderboard is Justin Rose, who’s seemingly finding another gear at the age of 45. After blitzing the North Course on Thursday with a 62, the Englishman was only three shots worse on the much-harder South, firing a 7-under 65. Rose, a week after missing the cut at the American Express, has made one bogey through 36 holes and is four shots clear of Seamus Power, who sits at 13 under.
While some of the TOUR’s best have earned weekend tee times, others are headed home early. The list includes Xander Schauffele, his first missed cut since the 2022 Masters.
