Billy Ho? More Like Billy Ho-ly S*** That Was Fun, Am I Right?

Billy Horschel unleashed his inner Russell Crowe and it was one of the best moments of TGL's debut season.

Before we dive in, let me apologize for the headline. Alright, let’s go.

Billy Horschel put on a damn show last night in the SoFi Center, or what I call, “The House Horschel Built.” He was absolutely electric and gave us a look at what the TGL could be if every player embraced the Coliseum-like environment. He went full-Russell Crowe and I’m here for it.

Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay, Horschel, and Lucas Glover of Atlanta Drive GC took home the title last night, closing the book on an outstanding debut season for the simulator league headed by Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods, and their TMRW Sports.

There was a lot of discussion heading into the league’s first campaign. Would it be gimmicky? Would the early hype turn into boredom as the season rolled on?

But after taking in all the matches, all the great shots, all the viral moments, you’d be kidding yourself if you think the TGL wasn’t a massive, massive success.

It was consistently a topic of conversation in golf circles through the first few months of the year, the TV numbers were impressive, and the players enjoyed themselves. We were able to watch the best players in the world on Monday and Tuesday nights and I’d never complain about that. Would I rather watch How I Met Your Mother for the 100th time, or watch a mic'd up Tiger and Rory battle it out.

That’s a no-brainer, folks.

And I’m not alone. The overwhelming majority of feedback Tuesday night was glowing, setting the TGL up nicely for their sequel.

Even LIV Golf’s Phil Mickelson gave the league its flowers.

Among the biggest winners from season one, I’d say Horschel and Wyndham Clark were the MVPs. They weren’t afraid to mix it up, talk a little trash, give big celebrations, and interact with the crowds. They both gained a lot of fans since January.

It’s a bummer we have to wait nine months for more action at the SoFi Center, but hopefully some other big names join up. Bryson? Scottie? Phil? Give me all the big personalities. But until then, there’s plenty to look forward to.

A quick reminder: the first round of the Masters begins in 15 days.
