Jordan Spieth has played pretty well over the last month, finishing in a tie for seventh at the Memorial and for 23rd at the U.S. Open, so it was pretty surprising to see him struggling around TPC River Highlands on Thursday at the Travelers Championship.
But there was an explanation.
Spieth was seen using a message gun on his neck during the early part of his round, then he was overheard on the broadcast saying he'd been struggling to even finish a backswing.
After hitting his tee shot and second on the par-5 13th, Spieth withdrew from the final PGA TOUR signature event of the season due to injury. It was tough to watch him make his way to the golf cart that picked him up in the fairway, as it was evident he was hurting pretty good. It was 13-time PGA TOUR winner's first injury-induced WD in his nearly 300 starts, he wasn't even sure of the protocol on how to leave the course mid-round.
There’s three tournaments after the Travelers and before the Open in July, so he has some time to heal up before the year’s final major championship.
Here’s hoping it’s nothing too serious.
