The Masters won’t be the same when Jim Nantz hangs ‘em up. Imagine not hearing “Hello, friends”? That’s gonna be a tough day.
But it’s not gonna be for a while, thank God.
Nantz told bunkered that he plans to retire from the Masters broadcast in 2036, the 100th playing of the year’s first major.
“If all the stars aligned, right now, it feels like a pretty good exit point: April 14, 2036,” he said. “That is my scheduled retirement date. It would be a perfect place to walk out.”

If all goes according to plan, it will also be his 50th time calling the action among the Georgia Pines.
But he also knows plans could change, even if he’ll be in his late 70s by 2036.
“I know what’s going to happen,” he said. “I’m going to get to that year, and I’m going to say, ‘You know, maybe I could do this for a while longer.’ We have broadcasters over here that have gone on well into their 80s, so that’s one of those ‘wait and sees’, I guess.”
