The golf and tennis worlds are starting to blend into one homogenous blob. First, Rory McIlroy was seen at the U.S. Open in New York just hours after finishing his final round of the TOUR Championship in Atlanta. Then, World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz started doing a golf swing celebration after every match win.
It’s become iconic—although, he did admit it doesn’t look that good on the course.
On Tuesday, Alcaraz said he was playing with Sergio Garcia on Wednesday—Garcia was originally in the field for this week’s Irish Open, but withdrew after he didn’t make the European Ryder Cup team—and added that he would need 10-15 shots to make it fair.
On Wednesday, Andy Murray replied to the NUCLR Golf tweet and said that he gave Alcaraz 12 shots and “smoked him.”
“I’d imagine Sergio would need to give him 25,” he continued.
A few hours later, Alcaraz claimed Murray only beat him because his partner was good and challenged Murray to a singles bout.
Even during one of the biggest weeks of the tennis season, golf has become a big topic of debate. Truly the greatest sport in the world.
