The Craziest Stats From a record-breaking May on the PGA TOUR - Presented by CDW
May was the Month of Scottie Scheffler, and he kicked it off in record-breaking fashion at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson by matching the tour's 72-scoring record, breaking the 36-hole course record at TPC Craig Ranch, and winning by 8 shots. He also managed to record the lowest par-5 scoring average ever recorded (based on PGA TOUR records dating back to 1983), at 3.83. Yes, you read that right, he averaged lower than a birdie on the par 5s!
Speaking of records, Sepp Straka won the Truist Championship at The Philadelphia Cricket Club and for the week made a total of 406' 4" worth of putts, including 5 putts made from more than 20'. He was also under par for the week on the par-3s, which is the lowest recorded par-3 performance at this event.
To dive further into the standout stats from other winners on the PGA TOUR in May, we spoke with our lead data analyst, super smart stats guy, and the Assistant Men's Golf Coach at Princeton, Lou Stagner, to break it down.
