On Wednesday night, a video of PGA of America President Don Rea rapping Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” went viral on Golf Twitter. Mind you, this was just hours after Team USA fans berated and abused the Europeans at Bethpage Black. So, yeah, not the best look for Rea.
But, it got me thinking: What would golf’s best players sing if they were in a karaoke bar? Why was that the first thing that came to mind? No clue, but it birthed a pretty good idea.
So, here are my predictions.
Okay, I did some research. In 2022, he did an interview with Golf.com’s Claire Rogers, and he said that he was listening to a lot of Flatline Cavalry because he has some friends in the band. Then I searched “Scottie Scheffler’s favorite music” and a Spotify playlist popped up. It’s created by Scottie Scheffler, and it includes a bunch of Flatline Cavalry songs plus tons of other country.
So, I’m going with a song that’s in there: All My Ex’s Live in Texas by George Strait. Can’t you picture it? I think there’s a 90% chance I got this right.
This was an easy one. We’ve seen it.
After winning the Zurich Classic of New Orleans with his best buddy Shane Lowry, he belted out Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin'” like he’s done it 100 times before. And after his win at the Masters, the pick only makes more sense.
Nelly was tough. She’s a country and rap fan, but since I got Scottie belting out a cowboy anthem, I went with a rap song for Nells.
Let’s go with “Hot In Herre.” It’s a crowd pleaser, everyone in that bar would sing along, and it’s by, well, Nelly. Makes sense to me.
This guy's into some, let’s just say, unique music. It started with EDM-type stuff, then heavy rock , then something he called “metal core” in this interview with Skratch five years ago.
So, I’m going with the rock category, but a pick that would be accepted by folks in the bar: Paranoid by Black Sabbath. Like my Scheffler pick, I can absolutely see Vik belting this at the top of his lungs. The perfect choice.
I saved my best for last. I know exactly what Tiger would sing.
In an interview with GolfTV, he said his favorite song is Mark Morrison’s “Return of the Mack.” That’s the pick. I can’t tell you how happy I’d be watching the GOAT performing this classic—plus, it plays in my mind every time Tiger comes back to golf after an injury.
