In golf, speed means distance, and more distance is never a bad thing, which is why golf ball engineers look at every possible combination of core, mantle, and cover to match distance with control.
And, with the help of advanced material sciences, Callaway has managed to make their longest tour golf balls, the Chrome Tour series, even faster.
Even with a slightly tweaked core and cover, which we'll get to in just a moment, the big story of the new Chrome Tour lineup, which includes the Chrome Soft, Tour, and Tour X models, is what Callaway calls the Tour Fast Mantle.

This new mantle layer offers a 16% higher flex modulus (Flexural Modulus: the metric that defines material stiffness and its resistance to bending- thanks, Google), which in turn helps the golf ball generate more speed.
“The new Chrome Tour, Chrome Tour X, and Chrome Soft Golf Balls are all designed to provide a new level of ball speed,” said Eric Loper, Callaway Sr. Director of Golf Ball R&D. “Our Tour Fast Mantle is a material that’s never been used before in a golf ball, and we’re confident that golfers will see why it can make such a big impact on their speed and distance. The consistency of this ball also truly stands out with our Seamless Tour Aero, and the control into the green is exceptional.”

Although so many conversations around golf balls focus on the cover and core, the mantle plays an important role in performance throughout the bag. While the core helps with the overall feel and launch conditions, it's the mantle around the core that acts like the spring. The firmer the spring, the more speed the golf ball can theoretically create from impact.
On the other end of the golf bag with wedges, and on partial shots, a firmer mantle (with the help of a soft urethane cover) can push the urethane more into the face of the wedge to create more bite and more spin. This is a big part of the reason lower compression golf balls, even those with urethane covers, don't generally reach a higher spin number of wedges. because the inside of the ball compresses less of the cover into the face of the wedge.
That might be a bit of an oversimplification, but it's this principle that allows tour-level multi-layer golf balls to generate extremely fast ball speeds off the longer clubs that deliver less loft at impact, while still creating maximum spin in the short game.

Other core technologies sticking around with the new Chrome golf balls are Callaways Seamless Tour Aero dimple pattern designed to maintain a stable ball flight, along with a high performance urethane cover.
Plus, just like with previous generations, the full lineup of golf balls is manufactured with precision technology to ensure maximum quality control leading to consistent results.

For the player who is looking for a balanced approach to spin and trajectory without sacrificing speed, distance, or green side spin.

For the player looking for added trajectory and spin to help with peak height and stopping power, along with top end speed.

For those golfer you wants soft feel, short game spin, and a flatter trajectory, the Chrome soft is the ideal golf ball.
