When it comes to irons, most golfers use something with a bit of built-in forgiveness in the form of a cavity back or hollow-body design. So then why, when it comes to wedges, do these same golfers transition to a blade style versus continuing to add forgiveness into their short game with a cavity back?
Well, with the new Cleveland CBZ wedges, golfers don't have to sacrifice forgiveness in their wedges, thanks to this cavity back design packed with technology.
By using their new metal formulation, Z-Alloy (the same soft metal used in their RTZ line), Cleveland engineers have created wedges that are 10 percent softer than the previous generation, and thanks to the cavity back design, also more forgiving. This Z-Alloy, along with refinements made to mass placement around the head, provides improved feel and consistency.
When Z-Alloy was first formulated, it was designed to outperform every wedge material on the market, including 431 stainless steel which is commonly used in cavity back wedges. While 431 is durable, its hardness and lower density come at the cost of feel. Z-Alloy changes that. It’s significantly softer and less dense than 431, delivering tour-level feedback traditionally reserved for blade wedges. Now, golfers who prefer to play cavity back models no longer have to sacrifice feel.

Unlike the materials traditionally used in the construction of wedges, Cleveland Golf’s Z-Alloy is lower density, which allows for unique design tweaks. This steel alloy is also one of the few metals exclusively engineered for the benefit of golf club performance and design.
This is a dynamic face-blasting process that includes laser-etched lines designed to maximize friction in wet and dry conditions. What makes this process distinctive is that loft groupings are finished differently (46°–48°, 50°–52°, and 54°–60°). Lower lofts require less surface roughness to achieve consistent spin performance in wet and dry conditions.

Sharp grooves cut to the limit and a milling pattern configured to maximize spin around the face, depending on whether a shot is hit square or with an open face.
A 94% larger (compared to previous generation) Gelback insert helps to further dampen unwanted vibrations at impact to delivers a soft and responsive feel.
To help make grind selection easier for more golfers, the CBZ has grinds pre-selected based on loft to offer the greatest amount of versatility to the most players possible.

For even more versatility, the CBZ wedges also come in a Full-Face design option to provide more spin for players who miss around the face more often.
For the first time with a cavity back wedge, Cleveland is offering custom skin designs for the CBZ line. This custom option is on top of the personalized paintfill and engravings that are currently available to golfers can make their wedges their very own.
CBZ Lofts range from 44°-60°, Full Face will be available 50°-60°.
The CBZ and CBZ Full-Face wedges will be available online starting September 5th and will be priced at $180 each.
