Champions dinners have become a beloved tradition ahead of each major. It's an evening where the past and present are brought together—and oh, the stories we can only imagine that get told. But with every dinner, with the exception of the Masters and the Ryder Cup gala, the outfit choices of the world's best tend to leave much to be desired.
Sadly, this year's dinner at Quail Hollow was no different.
No, because was Martin Kaymer dressed in a trench coat? (He's not but that color/material combo is a slippery slope.)
It's like once our favorite champs step outside the ropes, all swagger goes with it. I know, it sounds harsh but someone has to say it! Perhaps they need to take notes from the 2025 MET Gala dress code, "Tailored for You," encouraging creative interpretations of tailoring, including menswear elements.
The MET Gala and a golf champions dinner are two vastly different occasions—yet, the end goal remains the same. The key to menswear always lies in the fit and shape, no matter how casual or formal the setting.
But I'll give credit where credit is due. There are some good ones in the bunch. Rory looks clean, Jason Day pulled out a burnt orange suede situation and I kinda love it, and kudos to Keegan Bradley for trying with a pocket square—he gets a B for the effort.
But JT and Xander front and center with their baggy trousers hurts my heart. For Thomas this was the most shocking. The former RLX turned Greyson wolf pack ambassador is like...the king of fitted golf-wear, and should be a lot of men's inspiration on how to pull of a subtle, yet incredible on course look.
We won't go full on fashion police because at the end of the day, these guys aren't here to walk the red carpet, it's more of a callout to just be more mindful for the future.
Fellas! This is a night celebrating you—take pride in your accomplishments and allow your style to be a vessel for your confidence and pride.
