Why My 6-Hour Scramble Ended With Slippers, Socks, and Science

This weekend I played in my first scramble of the year. Six hours. Ninety-nine degrees. Two groups on every tee box. It was golf, sure, but it felt more like endurance training. By the time we finished, I was half-baked, dehydrated, and reminded exactly why I gave up scrambles last season. Fun in theory, brutal in practice.

When I got home, after leaving at 7:30 in the morning and rolling in just before dinner, I did the responsible thing: cooked for the family. (Pro tip for husbands: this is the only way you’re ever getting out of the house for golf ever again.) But as soon as the plates were cleared, I needed to recover.

That’s when my comfort station came to the rescue.

I keep things simple when it comes to winding down. A soft pair of jersey shorts, a pima tee, and clean socks, nothing heavy, nothing loud. Just easy layers that feel like air after a long day in the heat. Add in a pair of slippers that live strictly inside the house, and I’m set.

But the real unlock, the reason I can actually move the next morning, is my Normatec boots. I’ll admit it’s a splurge, but I used to work there and I know the science is real. Golf is fun, but it’s chaos. Six hours in desert heat will test anyone’s patience, and mine isn’t exactly Tour-level. Having a corner at home designed for recovery has become non-negotiable for me. It’s the balance, soft clothes, quiet space, and one piece of tech that does the heavy lifting.
