Jordan Spieth was once one of the most prolific winners on the PGA TOUR. From 2015 to 2017, the young Texan won 10 times, including three major championships (‘15 Masters, ‘15 U.S. Open, ‘17 Open). But he’s won just twice since the beginning of ‘18, and has no Ws since the ‘22 RBC Heritage.
But he can feel a big year on the horizon.
Before the Wyndham Championship, the final regular season event of the year, gets underway Thursday morning, Spieth spoke with the media at Sedegfield Country Club on Wednesday and sounded confident that with a solid offseason, he’ll be back to his old ways when the calendar flips to 2026.
“Next year's going to be a really good year for me, I can feel it,” Spieth said. “It's all coming along. I'll be healthy, and just structurally putting, the mechanics are all getting really, really close. One good offseason should get me nailed down to where I could be as good as I've been. That's my goal.”
And we’ve seen glimpses of that this season.
He tied for fourth in Phoenix, for ninth at PGA National, grabbed fourth alone at THE CJ CUP, and recently finished T-7 at the Memorial. But the consistency hasn’t been there. He’s also mixed in a couple missed cuts and five finishes outside the top-30.
“It's just a little bit of the consistency in some ball-striking and some putting,” he said. “Both are ahead of average, both are gaining shots on the field on average, but I just, I'm looking to have kind of consistent gains round after round. I'm showing I can do that day after day whether I'm playing at home or playing out here, it's started to really come together lately so now I just have to execute when it matters.”
The now three-time father stressed time management being a big key moving forward, because as we all know, some things are bigger than golf.
“I want to be home swimming in the afternoon and being a part of my kids' lives growing up, so it's my choice but I have to manage my time better on when I'm getting out there and what I'm doing,” he said.
If it comes to fruition, a full-power Spieth would be incredible for the TOUR. Imagine adding that to Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and a fully healthy Xander Schauffele?
The Masters can’t get here fast enough.
