Viktor Hovland is an interesting cat.
From chipping off couch cushions to acting like a bobblehead, there is no shortage of Hovland GIF material out there.
His teammate Ludvig Aberg knows first hand that conversations are bound to go down a certain road the more you talk with the Norwegian.
On Wednesday, Aberg visited with the media at Bethpage Black and was asked what worked so well when the pair teamed up in Rome during the 2023 Ryder Cup.

“We're good friends. We speak the same language. We come from a very similar background. Obviously he grew up in Norway, and Sweden are very close in terms of the cultural environment. And yeah, we get along,” Aberg said.
“He's a funny guy to have funny conversations with. They can go in any direction that you don't really expect. We had a good time in Rome, and we've played multiple practice rounds since, and our caddies get along great, too. He's a good friend to have on TOUR and in the team room here.”
If you remember, Hovland and Aberg joined forces during Saturday Morning Foursomes in Rome and throttled Scottie Scheffler and Brooks Koepka, 9 and 7—winning a match before stepping on the 12th tee is just ridiculous. When asked if he takes pride in probably being the last guy to make Scottie cry on the golf course, Aberg said, “It's not something I think about. Obviously that day, it was somewhat of a freak result and something that we didn't quite expect. But it was a cool experience that me and Viktor had, and it was a cool thing to do, yeah.”
As for those “funny conversations” with Viktor, Aberg said the 12th-ranked player in the world doesn’t shy away from getting in his alien bag.
“He's always into sort of the UFO deals and all those things, so it's quite interesting,” Aberg said. “I'm not quite down that road just yet. If I hang out with him long enough, I might be. Again, you never really know where it's going to go, which is quite interesting.”
Hovland being a UFO guy is one of the least surprising things I’ve ever heard. It just makes sense. I’d be devastated if he didn’t believe in them.
As for if they’ll join forces this time around on Long Island, they haven’t been part of the same practice group yet this week. But after that showing in Rome, I wouldn’t be surprised if Luke Donald pushes that button.
