Tiger Woods has hit an impossible-to-know number of impossible shots throughout his career. The chip-in long of the par-3 16th at Augusta National, the chip-in at Memorial with water long, the fairway-bunker shot in Canada.
Honestly, there’s too many to name.
During a recent podcast interview, longtime pro Mike Lorenzo-Vera told a story about trying to recreate the ridiculous fairway-bunker shot Woods hit during the 2019 WGC-Mexico Championship. You know the one. He cut a 9-iron 50 yards and almost holed it. Watch for yourself:
On the Sliced Podcast, Vera said, “The year after I went there and I threw six balls (down) on the Tuesday. And I look at the shot, I couldn’t even get to, like, 40 meters of the green. The guy almost holed the shot with two clubs less, bending the ball more to the right. Altitude, temperature, it’s impossible to turn the ball. And the guy turns the ball with a 9-iron (from) 140 meters, 50 yards! And it’s pin high.”
The best of the best are just that much better than some of the guys they call co-workers. Just ridiculous.
