On Tuesday evening, Tiger Woods issued a statement following his car accident last week. He’ll be stepping away for a period of time to receive treatment and focus on his health.
Along with Tiger’s statement, the PGA TOUR and TOUR CEO Brian Rolapp also put out a release.
“Tiger Woods is a legend of our sport whose impact extends far beyond his achievements on the course,” the TOUR wrote. “But above all else, Tiger is a person, and our focus is on his health and well‑being. Tiger continues to have our full support as he takes this important step.”

“Tiger Woods is one of the most influential figures the sports world has ever known,” Rolapp wrote. “Over the last year, I have come to deeply appreciate Tiger not only for his impact on the game, but for his friendship and the perspective he has shared with me as I joined the golf industry.
“My thoughts are with him and his family as he takes this step, for which he has my full respect and support.”

Update: At 9:13 p.m. ET, the Masters confirmed Tiger will not be on site at Augusta National next week.
Stepping away is what the 15-time major champion needs. He needs help and support to get to a healthier place as a human being. Putting away the clubs for a bit to focus on himself is exactly what he needs to do.
We’ll miss him, but hopefully he can come back stronger.
