NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa. — Garrick Higgo’s PGA Championship got off to a pretty rough start. The South African was late to his 7:18 a.m. tee time Thursday morning and was penalized two strokes. He went on to make a par on the first hole, but you’ll see a six on his scorecard.
According to the PGA of America, Higgo was on the putting green but not “within the area defined as the starting point at his starting time.”

To his credit, he didn’t let it affect him too much. Through eight holes of his opening round, he’s 1 over for the tournament after getting one of the penalty strokes back on the par-4 third.
Update: After signing for a 1-under 69, Higgo said, "I wouldn't have been late if I knew I was running late...It's kind of—I was there on time, but the rule is, if you're one second late, you're late. So if you think about it, I was there on time, if you know what I mean."
From Rory McIlroy's toe to Higgo showing up fashionable late, lots of weird things happening at Aronimink this week—and he was three-and-a-half days to go!
