Rory McIlroy couldn’t have drawn up a better start to his third round.
After a 371-yard drive down the first, he stuffed a wedge beyond the pin and converted the birdie putt.
After another mammoth drive down the par-5 second, McIlroy hit his second just long of the green. But then he electrified the crowd with a chip-in eagle.
Then on the short par-4 third, the Northern Irishman hit a drive left of the green, pitched it just beyond the flag, and buried the putt.
After a par at the par-3 fourth, McIlroy hit another bomb drive down the impossible fifth and had just a 9-iron in. He walked after it and left himself a 18-foot birdie putt. Surprise, surprise, we made it.
5-under through five holes is just about as good as it gets.
