Jeeno Thitikul may have ended the steady stream of different winning faces on the LPGA, but only temporarily.
Just like that, we have another new winner in 2025 after the BMW Ladies Championship in Korea. Sei Young Kim collected her 13th career title, and her first since 2020 officially snapping a record that was set in 1995.
The 32 year old LPGA veteran won the 28th event of the season, going wire-to-wire after an opening round of 62 last Thursday.
"I was very nervous from the very beginning," Kim said in her winning presser. "It has been a while since I played in the last group, I wasn't sure whether this was real. So I really was questioning myself."
"I did miss birdie chance on the first hole and made a bogey. And A Lim [Kim] was really chasing me by one shot, she's a very aggressive player, so I thought I should play aggressively, as well. That attitude continued until the end of the round and my father always told me when I'm nervous, don't back off and I tried to remember that mindset."
A mindset that's reflected in her on-course style, too. Inspired by Tiger Woods and his famed red shirt on Sundays, Kim dawns red trousers to remind herself of that winning mentality.
"When I turned pro, I wanted people to remember me, and I thought of Tiger Woods always red shirts. So I was looking for, why not go for the red trousers. By wearing that, I got my first win. So I stuck with that."
The Korean native joins the like of 26 others in what has been a historic season for the LPGA Tour—fitting as it celebrates 75 years since being founded.
