LIV Golf has a New Investor, According to CEO Scott O’Neil
LIV Golf has found its life raft—we just don't know how big it is yet.
For the better part of 2026, LIV Golf’s future truly hung in the balance. Events were canceled, players started to flirt with the DP World Tour—it’s been a mess. But on Wednesday, league CEO Scott O’Neil revealed that they have signed a new investor to keep them afloat.
But that’s about all we know on that front.
“LIV Golf has an agreement in place with a lead investor, signed by the investor and approved by the Board, to anchor the transaction and play a key role in supporting the path forward for the League’s next era, driven by and for the players,” O’Neil said in a statement to GOLF.com. “We're also seeing strong interest from more than a dozen additional parties to potentially serve as minority investors, creating a multi-partner model built for long-term stability and growth.”
The investor, the amount of money being infused into the league are both still unknowns. However, O’Neil did add that players will be majority equity holders in LIV, and the plan for the schedule is for it to feature 10 events, five in the United States and five across the globe.
We’ll have to wait for September to get all the details, but for now, LIV lives—I’m interested to see if it’ll have enough money to renew Bryson DeChambeau’s contract or pay Jon Rahm the $150 million that’s reportedly owed to him.
