The Recipe for Kurt Kitayama’s Win at the 3M Open? Getting Dumped by his Caddie

Kurt Kitayama's caddie dumped him before his 3M Open win on Sunday: “He decided to make a change and left me."

Kurt Kitayama made 20 birdies—yes, you read that right, 20!—over the weekend in Blaine, Minnesota, at TPC Twin Cities to win the 3M Open for his second PGA TOUR victory (2023 Arnold Palmer Invitational).

But maybe the coolest part about his W? Kurt had his brother on the bag.

Kitayama worked with Tim Tucker for a bit, but when Bryson DeChambeau’s bag opened up, Tucker left to pick it up. We hear about players and caddies breaking up all the time, but the caddie rarely is the one to walk away.

On this week’s episode of Dan On Golf, Kitayama joined Skratch’s Dan Rapaport to chat about the sudden looper change.

“He decided to make a change and left me,” Kitayama said. “And so, figured my brother was going to be the best fit. He’s caddied for me before.”

And it was a big week in golf, so Dan recaps the 3M Open, Joaquin Niemann winning again on LIV, Padraig Harrington winning the Senior Open, and Lottie Woad winning her first professional start. He also dives deep into neuroscience with Dr. Izzy Justice to help you all play better golf.
