According to Data Golf, Harry Hall has been the fifth-best European player over the last three months. Surely, that’s enough to get into the Ryder Cup conversation, right? Right?
Well, according to him, he’s had no recent conversations with Team Europe Captain Luke Donald, despite ten straight top-30 finishes on the PGA TOUR. And he’s well on his way to another at the BMW Championship after rounds of 68-67 around Caves Valley—at 4 p.m. ET, he was in a tie for seventh, nine shots back of leader Robert MacIntyre.
The added bonus? He’s now projected to move to 29th in the FedExCup Standings, meaning he’d get into the field for next week’s TOUR Championship.
The funny part about all this is that social media has run with the idea of a European “lads club”, something similar to Team USA’s boys club? Confused? Let me explain.
A few years ago when Zach Johnson was putting together his roster, he was accused of picking all his buddies for the team and leaving off guys that truly deserved to go to Rome, including this year’s captain Keegan Bradley.
Do I think that’s an actual issue for Donald and Team Europe? No, probably not. But I do have to say, lads club has a nice ring to it.
The real question is this: if he makes the team, will Europe make a hat for him?
