This Golf Biomechanist Says Rolling Back the Golf Ball is a Bad Idea

“Aside from helping my business with the necessity of gaining speed, I don’t think it’s going to accomplish what they want to accomplish by slowing the ball down."

In 2028, the golf ball will be rolled back. The USGA and R&A made this announcement in late 2023 with hopes that the move would bring back classic golf courses that were left behind in the distance movement. Plus, with golf courses running out of room, these tracks won’t have to add tee boxes anymore.

Well, golf biomechanist Sasho MacKenzie says it’s “not the way to go.”

“Aside from helping my business with the necessity of gaining speed, I don’t think it’s going to accomplish what they want to accomplish by slowing the ball down,” he told Skratch’s Dan Rapaport during this week’s episode of Dan On Golf.

Also on this week’s show, Dan recaps Scottie Scheffler's title defense at the Memorial Tournament, chats with Skratch editor Addie Parker on the U.S. Women's Open, breaks down the men's NCAA tournament, blind ranks iconic golf landmarks, and chats with top instructor Mark Blackburn.

You can listen to DOG wherever you get your podcasts or on the Dan On Golf YouTube channel.
