Collin Morikawa has had J.J. Jakovac on the bag for the last six years. In that span, Morikawa won six times on the PGA TOUR, including the 2020 PGA Championship and 2021 Open, and peaked at No. 2 in the Official World Golf Ranking.
A pretty damn good resume for a 28-year-old.
However, earlier this week, Morikawa and Jakovac split and the two-time major champion hired a new looper: Joe Greiner.
Greiner was on the bag for Max Homa for years before they split up earlier this season. He then caddied for Justin Thomas at the Masters and RBC Heritage. Thomas broke his winless streak with Greiner at Harbour Town Golf Links.
Morikawa joined Skratch’s Dan Rapaport to discuss the caddie change and why he has enlisted Greiner to be his Robin.
The full interview will be featured on Monday’s episode of Dan On Golf. You can listen wherever you get your podcasts or on the Skratch YouTube channel.
Morikawa isn’t in the field for this week’s CJ CUP Byron Nelson at TPC Craig Ranch, but he’s set to tee it up in next week’s Truist Championship, the TOUR’s sixth signature event of the season. Then, he’ll head to Charlotte, North Carolina, for the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow.
Greiner will be a perfect person to rely on around that track. He won the Wells Fargo Championship with Max Homa in 2019.
