Full Swing Season 3 and “Happy Gilmore 2” aren't the only highly-anticipated golf production premiering in 2025—or with a Skratch family connection.
Apple’s upcoming golf comedy “Stick” starring Owen Wilson is set for June 4, and the series’ cast is loaded with cameos from some of our favorite personalities and stars—including Skratch’s very own Dan Rapaport.
Max Homa, Wyndham Clark, Collin Morikawa and United States Ryder Cup Captain Keegan Bradley are just of few of the game’s superstars who will make an appearance. As for some other notable cameos, broadcasters Jim Nantz and Trevor Immelman, Good Good’s Matt Scharff, Brad Dalke and Garrett Clark are all set for some screentime.
The series follows Pryce Cahill, played by Wilson, an ex-pro whose career went off the deep end prematurely 20 years ago. Following the collapse of his marriage and losing his job, Pryce picks up the bag for a 17-year-old phenom. It’s a feel-good comedy that explores found family and relationships within the game.
Created by Jason Keller and executive produced by Owen, "Stick" will make its debut dropping three episodes on the June 4 launch with one new episode each Wednesday to follow through July 23.
“I play myself, basically,” Rapaport said. “Commenting on the professional golf that's happening in the show. I don't think I'll be a huge part of the show, maybe an episode or two. But it was such a thrill getting to see how a big-time scripted show gets made. They essentially build a village around the entire set. A huge thrill for me to be involved, and totally different from my experience on Full Swing, which is a documentary.”
Apple has been on an absolute heater over the last several years with smash-hits like Ted Lasso and Severance. If this series is half as good as Lasso, we’re in for a hit—if you’re one of the three people who have never seen the show, it follows an ex-football coach who flies across the pond to coach soccer (or futbol, sorry if you were offended) and it’s loaded with feel-good, heartwarming and hilarious moments. Truly one of the best TV shows ever, and that’s because the characters and relationships were easy to connect to. You could feel everything through the screen, and it was so good that people who’ve never watched a second of soccer loved it.
Could Stick do the same? Rapaport thinks so.
“Full Swing has been huge in attracting a non-golf audience with its focus on human interest, and I think this show will do the same. There are so many unique dynamics in our sport—the relationship between player and coach, player and caddie, player and fellow player. Owen Wilson is the perfect vehicle for the audience to explore these relationships through.”
With Full Swing, Happy Gilmore 2 and now Stick all on the horizon, golf fans are being spoiled this year—to be honest, it’s about time.
