Rory McIlroy's Frustrations Are Reaching Their Heights at Oakmont

He tossed a club. He smashed a tee marker. And we can't help but empathize.

After a couple of early double bogeys on Nos. 1 and 3 on Friday, Rory McIlroy has been battling to make it to the weekend.

He birdied No. 9 before making the turn, but gave it back on No. 11. Sitting at 8-over for the tournament, Rory gave his driving iron a little toss—and by little, we mean aggressive—on the par-5 12th after pulling his second shot way left of the green.

Then, after making a birdie on the 15th to move to 7-over, McIlroy’s tee shot on the driveable par-4 17th drifted a little right and that was enough for him. He took his frustration out on a tee marker and broke it in half.

He failed to get up-and-down from the right greenside bunker and headed to 18 at +7—right on the cut line.
