The Craziest Stats From a record-breaking July on the PGA TOUR - Presented by CDW
July was a huge month for multiple players on the PGA Tour, including a couple of first-time winners in Chris Gotterup and Aldrich Potgieter - two players who are also known for their top-end speed and distance.
In the case of Gotterup, he won the Genesis Scottish with his distance and touch on the green by gaining +7.30 strokes putting, more than 3 shots higher than the previous two champions. It also helped that he was 100% putting inside 5 feet, something that would help any golfer shoot some low scores.
As for Aldrich Potgieter, his standout performance was highlighted by gaining close to 10 shots on the field on just the par-4s around Detroit Golf Club, which accounted for 76% of his strokes gained for the entire event.
For more on this, and to dive further into the standout stats from other winners on the PGA TOUR in July, we spoke with our lead data analyst, super smart stats guy, and the Assistant Men's Golf Coach at Princeton, Lou Stagner, to break it down.
