The Craziest Stats From an action-packed August on the PGA TOUR, presented by CDW
August was an exciting month on the PGA TOUR and included everything from gutsy veterans grinding down the stretch to feel-good first-time winners.
In the case of the gutsy veteran, Just Rose won the FedEx St Jude and did it with an amazing playoff victory over J.J. Spaun. The playoff was one thing, but getting to the playoff was probably the more impressive part of Justin's game because he was trailing by 3 shots with 5 holes to go before getting into the playoff.
What's even more impressive is that on the 18th hole for the week (including the playoff), Justin averaged under 12' proximity to the hole and was inside 14' for 6 of 7 shots.
As for the man everyone was talking about, Tommy Fleetwood won the FedEx Cup at East Lake to secure his first victory on the PGA Tour and become the tour's 1001 unique winner. He's the first person to make the Tour Championship his first win since Chad Campbell did it all the way back in 2003.
For more on this, and to dive further into the standout stats from other winners on the PGA TOUR in August, we spoke with our lead data analyst, super smart stats guy, and the Assistant Men's Golf Coach at Princeton, Lou Stagner, to break it down.
