Sim Seeking: The Coolest Spot in Town is X-Golf Brooklyn

Come for the golf, but stay for the cozy and elevated sports bar/cafe vibe. This week I keep it local to my hood at X-Golf in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

Over the last two weeks, I've brought you guys along with me to New Jersey, Manhattan's Upper East Side, and now I'm taking us to Brooklyn...the very best borough in the whole city. (And I'm not just saying that because I live there.)

The neighborhood of Williamsburg is like the new West Village, meanwhile the West Village is the new SoHo. If don't know what any of this means, just understand that Brooklyn is where all the cool kids land. There's undeniable charm to BK, the people are prideful but not in a haughty way. Those born here will let you know it in a heartbeat, and those than chose the neighborhood embrace it in every way.

The folks here are laidback, they love their plants, and most of all they love a good place to kick it. Manhattan always feels buzzy, people are constantly on the go. But in Brooklyn, slows things down a bit. There's a little more room to breath, and community spaces flourish here.

It's the kind of area that benefits the most from having an indoor golf space, and X-Golf delivers that perfectly. It's sim golf, with a bit of edge.

X-Golf Brooklyn is situated a block a way from a lively public park, with the East River on it's other side. There's only one train line that will get you there, but in the summer I highly recommend catching a ferry ride over to Williamsburg and make the shortish walk up a few blocks.

It's a part of the larger franchise umbrella of X-Golf, but this particular location also operated under another name, Birdie's Clubhouse, or just Birdie's.

The clubhouse greets you as soon as you walk in. You're met with a long-running bar, plenty of plants and greenery draping the walls, and lots of seating areas that it feels like a cafe space, too! In the front portion there's also tons screens and space to watch sporting events—it's the kind of place that functions as an elevated sports bar. Birdie's offers a full bar and food menu, with plenty of goodie to try. I highly recommend the cookie skillet.

As you work your way towards the sims, you're eyes will move toward the massive pool table in the center of the room, with a little pocket corner to throw some darts while you wait for a bay to open.

It's extremely communal, and I've gotten to visit a few times since my initial trip, during different hours of the day and each part of the day brings it's own crowd.

The morning wave, when me and the Skratch crew pulled up was quiet, with a few folks posted up doing work and sipping lattes. During the afternoon and into the early evening the space livens up with its on-going kids programming, where they offer lessons. It wasn't as kid-friendly, and equipped with toys like Five Iron UES, but it was nice to see a younger crowd occupy the space. And during the evenings, especially in the colder months, X-Golf BK is all the way live. There's folks spread out across the space and sims are filled to the brim, but not so much that walk-ins are unable to snag a little time. Just be prepared to wait a little, and don't forget to order a craft cocktail while you do.

I was fortunate enough to try some of their rotating seasonal drinks, and I can confirm that there's a bad thing to choose from!

X-Golf Brooklyn felt very golf-adjacent to me. It's perfectly fine for the hyper-focused golfer looking to dial in their game—the Foresight simulator technology provides everything you need, but the crowd best served here are folks who want a fun group activity or hang. They aren't your everyday golfers, but they are interested enough to try it out, but they want a cool, and sexy spot to grab a good trip and have some fun.

Whether if you live in NYC or planning your next visit, this is definitely a spot to look into for a fun activity in a really sick area.
