Sometimes, research and development take longer than expected, simply because the first iteration of a product works so well that it becomes extremely hard to beat.

In the case of Titleist ProV1x Left Dash ( -Pro V1x ) golf ball, which debuted on the PGA Tour back in 2018 and finally made its way to retail in October 2019, the performance separation and attributes in Gen 1 made it a top alternative to the Standard Pro V1 and Pro V1x to the point where it didn't require tweaking.

But, like anything, there comes a time when true improvements can be introduced, which is why, for the first time in over 7 years, the Left Dash is getting a full update.

What Took So Long?

According to Titleist's inside story, the original prototypes of the new left dash came to be over 4 years ago, with one version looking like it was likely going to be the next generation. There was just one problem during final player testing on tour.

“During that testing, we heard a few comments that started to give us the indication that maybe we weren't going down the right path. The prototype felt great. It had good speed and distance, but the spin was creeping up too high in the short irons. In our minds, all it really was doing is moving the product closer to our stock Pro V1x, and it was straying from Left Dash’s DNA.”

- Fordie Pitts, Titleist’s Director of Tour Research and Validation

After that development, it was back to the drawing board.

“We learned from players that the path we went down was not going to be optimal for what they were looking for in the product. So we started to zero in on why they love Left Dash. It’s the speed, the distance, the low spin. We completely shifted gears to focus our efforts there, resulting in a faster, longer Pro V1x Left Dash, with spin optimized for this player.”

- Frederick Waddell, Titleist’s Director of Golf Ball Product Management.

With so much time devoted to product refinement, here's everything new with the new Pro V1x Left Dash golf ball:

  • A faster high-gradient (meaning it gets firmer away from the center), dual core (core within a core construction), formulated to generate faster rebound and ball speeds for added distance.
  • A thicker casting mantle layer to add speed and reduce long game spin for a flatter trajectory.
  • A thinner cast urethane cover to produce more greenside spin and short-game control.
  • A newly designed spherically-tiled 348 tetrahedral (yeah, it's a big fancy word) dimple design, engineered to create a more consistent flight window.

*Fun little note - this new pattern has exactly 20 more dimples than the previous generation.

Price & Availability

The all-new Left Dash Pro V1x will be available in golf shops worldwide starting on January 21st, and will come with a price tag of $58 per dozen.
