AUGUSTA, GA — The buildup was real, and the tension could be felt through televisions around the world, as Tommy Fleetwood's youngest son, Frankie, faced the 9th hole during the Par 3 Contest, Wednesday at The Masters.
No matter the outcome, he had already amassed a large number of fans after last year's viral moment, where he offered up the most honest answer a young kid could when asked about trying to hit the shot over the pond.
And during the 2026 Par 3 Contest, Frankie once again tried his hardest and had enough club, but just missed the green on the right side with both his attempts—the second coming after the crowd chanted "One more Ball!"
But, there is something bigger here to take away for any parent looking to get their kids into the game of golf, and it has nothing to do with Augusta National.
It's about making sure that from the start, kids have properly fit clubs to help them make the most natural move at the ball they can. I mean, it's hard to argue that little Frankie has a swing that would make most adult golfers jealous.
TaylorMade's Sr. Tour Manager, Adrian Rietveld, even shared a video of Frankie hitting balls in preparation for the big moment on Wednesday, along with a lovely message about attitude.
Beyond having the right length, the most important part of getting kids fit into the right set is making sure they're light enough not to pull them around during the swing. This is why cut-down adult clubs are one of the worst ways to get a child to start hitting golf balls.
And, although most kids aren't going to get fit by a PGA TOUR rep, the same process can be applied to make sure everyone has the correct clubs. The video below perfectly demonstrates how, after impact, when the club is just surpassing maximum speed, young Frankie can maintain his posture to finish in balance—one of the biggest signs that a kid is using the right clubs.
The best part is you can get started with single clubs for less than the price of a dozen premium golf balls, or go for a great full-package starter set for less than the price of most new hybrids.
