It was only a couple of years ago that Ping decided to do something a little different than most major equipment manufacturers when it produced the short game helper - the ChipR, and as the name suggests, yes it's a chipper.
Now at the time, jokes were made and giggles were had, but in reality, the fitting and design team at PING knew exactly what they were doing to help golfers around the green and the thing sold out almost instantly. In fact it was even a passing joke that Viktor Hovland (before his extensive short game makeover) might put one in play - look he said he sucked at chipping, not us.
Well he never did, and that's probably for the best, but a lot of golfers did, which allowed Ping to focus on their next specialty club to help golfers from one of the most troublesome spots in all of golf - the sand.
As the name not so subtly implies, the new Ping BunkR is designed to make escaping sand traps around the green as easy as possible, and the design takes a lot of cues from one of the most successful sand wedges of all time - the Ping Eye 2.
With its wide sole built with lots of camber (that's roundness from the from to the back of the sole), lots of offset, and full grooves, the BunkR is designed to inspire confidence and help golfers focus on a single technique to get out of the sand.

Thanks to the 64° of loft and the copious amounts of bounce, Ping suggests that by simply playing a square face and hitting the sand behind the ball you're guaranteed to escape from the sand every time!
(LEGAL DISCLAIMER - PING and its parent company Karsten Manufacturing Corporation (KMC) does in no way guarantee or offer an implied promise that you will escape the sand every time. But it may give you the confidence to feel like you can.)
So with all of this in mind, if you are a golfer with a tendency to struggle from the sand or even from elevating the ball from tough lies around the green, then the BunkR from Ping could be the short game tool that helps you get up and down just a bit more often.
