Quail Hollow Golf & Country Club in Charlotte N.C. is the site of this year's PGA Championship, and with it comes familiarity thanks to its yearly appearance on the PGA TOUR schedule. But familiarity doesn't mean players aren't pulling out all of the stops to get prepped for the second men's major of the 2025 season, so with that in mind, here's an early snapshot of what's happening.
It feels like more and more manufacturers and companies are getting in on the action when it comes to creating limited edition gear for the biggest tournaments of the season. It used to be that TaylorMade was the only one doing limited edition bags and covers, but a lot of others have stepped up, and it's always fun to see what the design teams come up with - here's a sampling ahead of the tournament start:
TaylorMade's Professional Championship Collection
TaylorMade Queen City Collection features a navy and gold color palette with nods to the host city. From gold crowns as a nod to Charlotte's nickname "Queen City" and feathers inspired by the namesake bird of the host course to embroidered hornets as a wink to the local NBA team and checkered liners honoring the city's ties to NASCAR, this six-piece collection is major-ready.

Callaway's May Major Edition Pieces
Leaning into the major color scheme of this week, Callaway's Charlotte-inspired collection is primarily for the pros with bags and headcovers embroidered with quails and queens. Available to the public are the brand's Chrome Tour golf balls with a similar design.
Dormie x Team Srixon Championship Driver Headcover
Srixon golf teamed up with Dormie Workshop to create a racetrack-themed headcover ahead of the second men's major of the year. A nod to Charlotte's NASCAR roots, we also hope it inspires good pace of play through the soggy-forecasted week.
Limited Edition SuperStroke Golf Grips
Combining the bird and royalty themes, SuperStroke designed a grip ahead of the PGA Championship with a crown-wearing Quail holding a flagstick instead of a royal staff.
Bettinardi Golf's Major Drop
Already sold out less than an hour after it was released, Bettinardi's pre-PGA collection included hornet-adorned equipment and accessories with retro designs in bold purple and teal shades as a nod to the nearby NBA squad.
When talking to several people close to players on the grounds at Quail Hollow, based on players' knowledge of the course, there hasn't been a lot of club tweaks beyond some fresh wedges with sharp grooves and a few players testing some higher lofter fairways woods - most notably Collin Morikawa testing a TaylorMade Qi35 9-wood, and Dustin Johnson working with a Ping G440 7-wood.
Recent winner Justin Thomas was one of the many players getting ready for the event with new wedges and was testing multiple 60.5-degree options. The top being the K(Star) with a modified trailing edge, and the lower one being a T-grind that has less bounce but a more pronounced front skid area to prevent the club from digging - which could be particularly helpful in the wet conditions around Quail Hollow this week.
We'll continue to follow up with players and club reps to get all the details on any further changes being made for the event, so stay tuned.
