Several stars took scouting trips to Long Island leading up to tournament week, including Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, and Bryson DeChambeau. But now, the real work begins.
I was lucky enough to play Shinnecock last month, and I can't tell you how pure this place is. It's the only golf course to host a U.S. Open in three centuries, and it didn't take long being on property to understand why.
With wind in the forecast for all four rounds, this year's U.S. Open could be an all-timer.
Some of the faces out on Monday include Scheffler, McIlroy, Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Rahm, Dustin Johnson, defending champion J.J. Spaun, and Jackson Koivun, who is making his final start as an amateur this week. The 21-year-old will make his pro debut at the John Deere Classic in a few weeks.
