Here's one of the stranger stats from Thursday's professional golf slate. The Travelers Championship and KPMG Women's PGA Championship are being played at almost exactly the same yardage. TPC River Highlands measures 6,830 yards for Round 1, while Hazeltine checks in at 6,820. It's an eye-catching coincidence that highlights just how stout the setup is for the LPGA's third major of the season.

The comparison isn't apples to apples. TPC River Highlands is one of the PGA TOUR's shortest tests, while Hazeltine has been stretched well beyond a typical LPGA setup for the season's third major. Even so, seeing the two scorecards separated by just 10 yards is hard to ignore.

For context, Hazeltine's yardage is roughly 400-500 yards longer than a typical LPGA setup and 400-500 yards shorter than the average PGA TOUR venue.

What’s even more impressive is that at 12 p.m. ET, A Lim Kim was 4 under through her first 11 holes. At the same time, Eric Cole led the way at 6 under through 16, with Robert MacIntyre sitting at 4 under through 12.

Moral of the story: the best women golfers in the world are really, really, really good.
