The United States Ryder Cup team will welcome its first six members once the automatic qualifiers become official after the BMW Championship in a few weeks—World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is the only player who has already locked up a spot. So, there isn’t much time for RC hopefuls to make an impression on Captain Keegan Bradley.
Well, there’s a grouping at this week’s Wyndham Championship that might have spoiled what Bradley plans to do with a couple of his picks.
Keegs will play alongside Ben Griffin (No. 9 in the U.S. point standings) and Andrew Novak (No. 13) for the first two rounds at Sedgefield Country Club. Griffin and Novak teamed up earlier this season to win the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, and Griffin added another W a month later at the Charles Schwab Challenge.
Wyndham Championship: Picks to Win, Odds
Griffin feels like a lock at this point, despite a couple recent MCs at the John Deere Classic and The Open. Sitting at 13th, Novak is a little more on the bubble. Thursday and Friday could play a huge role in whether or not he’s part of the USA team room.
Of course, it’s another interesting week for Bradley. If he contends, it’ll only become clearer that he needs to play at Bethpage Black.
As of July 29, here’s a look at the top 12 in the U.S. points standings:
1. Scottie Scheffler
2. Xander Schauffele
3. J.J. Spaun
4. Russell Henley
5. Bryson DeChambeau
6. Harris English
7. Justin Thomas
8. Collin Morikawa
9. Ben Griffin
10. Keegan Bradley
11. Maverick McNealy
12. Brian Harman
