Before everyone's attention truly turns to football, the PGA Tour has one more week left in the spotlight, with the Presidents Cup slated to begin Thursday. The biennial event between the top 12 Americans and Internationals is being held at Medinah No. 3 outside of Chicago, a golf course that hosted the 2012 Ryder Cup and saw Tiger Woods claim two PGA Championships in 1999 and 2006.
Two years ago in Canada, Team USA took down Mike Weir's squad 18½—11½, and overall, the Internationals lone win came nearly 30 years ago in Australia. Before the first set of matches goes out on Thursday, here's all the information you need to know.

Medinah Country Club (No. 3)
Hosted the 2012 Ryder Cup, two PGA Championships, and three U.S. Opens.
After a recent renovation in 2024, Medinah No. 3 now features larger greens, bigger scale bunkers, fescue grass, and wide-open vistas.

Formats

Foursomes: another term for alternate shot. Before the match begins, each pair will decide who will tee off the even holes, and who will tee off the odd holes. One player hits the drive, the other hits the second, and this is repeated until the ball is holed.
Four-ball: all four players in each group, two from each team, play their own ball. However, the best score for each team is counted. Expect to see a lot of birdies in this format.
Singles: this format is used exclusively on Sunday, and it’s straight up mano v. mano match play. The final session will consist of 12 singles matches.
