Michelle Wie West is a self-proclaimed foodie, so it comes as no surprise that the five-time LPGA Tour winner is naming her first course design "Sweet Tooth". (Fun fact: she even has a dedicated Instagram page to document all of her good eats.)
Inspired by her own journey with golf, learning the game on her local par-3 track in Honolulu, Wie West plans to open her own short course at Candyroot Lodge—a new, open-to-the-public golfer's retreat sitting on 1,210 acres in the the heart of South Carolina. The lodge will serve as a walking-only, nature-focused destination, featuring four 18-hole courses, wellness amenities, dining, trails, and now, a new short course as the cherry on top!
"I grew up playing on a public course, and that shaped my love for the game," Wie West said in the announcement that was made this week. "With Sweet Tooth, I want to create that same kind of environment, where families can connect, kids can discover golf for the first time and players of all levels feel welcome and excited to play."
Wie West is a mom of two, her daughter Makenna and son Jagger keep her quite busy these days, but she's re-establishing her presence in the golf space through so many other ventures like WTGL, McLaren Golf, and now this.

In an interview with Golf Digest about her role in the par-3 course development, Wie West shared, "I'm personally a big sweet tooth...I think some of the best experiences on the golf course are the golf course snacks. Those days at Hawaii Kai are some of my fondest memories. So we’re going to have sweet treats and create a fun golf experience." And we agree completely with Wiezy!
As for details about her new par-3 venture, this is everything we know so far: plans are set to include night play, the terrain will be fast and firm to promote more creative short game choices, and tee boxes that can be shifted to change the length of holes.
There will also be two distinct scorecards which will offer different experiences, one as a traditional par-3 course and another in which select holes can play as par 4s and 5s for advanced players. Folks can expect to get on site to Candyroot Lodge come spring 2027.
