LIV Golf is on the Verge of Bankruptcy, with Player Settlements Worth Pennies on the Dollar
According to a recent report, LIV Golf could file for bankruptcy as soon as next week, and the league's new investor won't fully commit with LIV having trouble gaining player commitments.
According to the Financial Times, LIV Golf will be filing for bankruptcy as early as September 7.
LIV’s fifth season ended abruptly a few weeks back when the league cancelled its season-ending team championship, and instead used its event in Indianapolis as the finale. With promises of “LIV Golf 2.0,” but a never-ending bad-news cycle, we’ve been waiting to see what the league’s future may look like.
Now, we know it starts with bankruptcy.
The Financial Times also reported that settlements have been offered to players, but they’re valued at pennies on the dollar, and that BC Partners, the reported lead investor of LIV’s new backing announced by CEO Scott O’Neil, hasn’t been willing to commit to the cash lifeline with LIV struggling to get commitments from enough players.
With Jon Rahm reportedly gone and Bryson DeChambeau’s cryptic Instagram post from last week, it’s hard to have any idea on what LIV’s roster will look going forward—if there is a forward.
As for this week, the majority of LIV’s staff will be let go with a smaller budget and footprint on the horizon. And that’s not to mention the lawsuits LIV is also dealing with after it left a trail of unpaid invoices for services rendered.
LIV Golf 2.0 is starting to feel like a soap opera.
